In a news release issued Wednesday, Peel police said that a young person has been arrested in connection with the death of a Brampton food delivery driver in July.
The youth who was charged with second-degree murder cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act
Police said that he is being held in custody to appear in court in Brampton.
No other details were provided about the youth or any other suspects. Investigators previously said more people were involved in the violent carjacking that occured in the Britannia and Creditview area of Mississauga on July 9.
Gurvinder Nath, a 24 year-old international student from Brampton was working as a food delivery driver, when a call was placed for a food order. Upon arrival, he was violently assaulted and robbed of his vehicle.
A few days later on July 14, the international student succumbed to his injuries after being taken to a trauma centre.
After learning about her son’s death, Gurvinder Nath’s mother took her own life. Both were cremated in their village in Punjab according to Indian media reports.
Investigators had identified a suspect vehicle described as a 2012 to 2017 Hyundai Accent sedan, white in colour with a distinctive flashing blue light at the top of the windshield.
