A co-ordinated effort by mutiple police services led to the quick arrest of two men, from Mississauga and Brampton, after an armed carjacking yesterday.

On Thursday, November 23 at 2 p.m., a 43-year-old man from King, Ontario, attended a parking lot in the area of Biscayne Crescent and First Gulf Boulevard in Brampton to sell his 2022 Mercedes G Wagon to a potential buyer. Two individuals arrived. One brandished a firearm and demanded the seller’s car keys. The man complied. Then one of them drove away in the victim’s vehicle while the other followed, Peel police said in a media release.

Thanks to a quick, coordinated response from the Central Robbery Bureau, the 12 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau and Tactical Unit, as well as assistance from the Provincial Carjacking Joint Task Force (PCJTF) and the York Regional Police (YRP) helicopter, officers were able to track the vehicles to Weston Road and Highway 401 where they met up with an F-150 truck.

The Peel police tactical unit attempted to stop the G Wagon when it intentionally made contact with the police vehicle and fled. However the Tactical Unit officers were able to take the occupants of the F-150 into custody.

Meanwhile the York Regional Police helicopter kept surveillance on the G Wagon as it fled the area. A short distance away, the suspect driver got out of the vehicle, fled on foot and committed a second carjacking of a white Honda Odyssey van.

Naman Singh, a 19-year-old man from Brampton, has been charged with robbery. Henry Pazer, a 27-year-old man from Mississauga, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime.

The investigation is ongoing and further arrests are anticipated.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators with the Central Robbery Bureau at (905)453-2121 ext. 3410. Information may also be left anonymously by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or by visiting peelcrimestoppers.ca.

As a result of the rising incidents of violence related to auto crimes across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), local police services have combined resources and established a provincial Carjacking Joint Task Force (PCJTF) to further co-ordinate law enforcement efforts in combating these crimes.

Co-led by the Toronto Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police, the task force is a collaboration between police services from across the GTA, including York, Halton, Durham, Peel and other external agencies, including Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario.

“Canada is now a source country of stolen autos and it has become the third largest revenue source for organized crime,” stated Peel Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah.

Duraiappah says that Peel Regional Police will continue to invest and dedicate more resources to make more arrests, prevent more auto thefts, and recover more cars.
