Mississauga (Jan 17) – A MiWay transit operator received recognition for saving a teen’s life last May.

Peter Dabrowski received the Individual Leadership Award in the Heroism category from the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA), the City of Mississauga said on its website.

On May 17, 2023, while driving on the Mississauga Transitway, Dabrowski noticed a teenage male in distress outside the concrete guardrail on the south side of the bridge over Eastgate Parkway. He immediately stopped his bus and called Control for assistance. Dabrowski and two passengers rendered assistance, including speaking with a 911 operator while the two bus passengers were able to approach the youth and pull him to safety.

Stephen Bacchus, another MiWay employee, received the Individual Leadership Award in the Young Leaders category.

“MiWay is proud of both Stephen and Peter for their exceptional leadership and dedication to public transit and safety,” said Eve Wiggins, Director, Transit. “Their achievements are a testament to MiWay’s commitment to excellence and innovation in the public transit industry.”

Every year, CUTA presents the Corporate Leadership and Individual Leadership Awards. The awards are presented at its annual conference in the fall.
