Mississauga is hosting a special event encouraging residents to get outdoors and enjoy fishing with the whole family this weekend.

The City’s Family Fishing Day event takes place at Lake Aquitaine (by the dock next to the Meadowvale Community Centre) on Sunday, July 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Participants will “learn safe and sustainable fishing techniques from angling experts” and try to catch a native species of fish right from the dock, the City said in a news release.

Attendees will also be instructed by experts on how to protect Mississauga’s water resources and how pollution in stormwater can impact use and enjoyment of the City’s water resources, including opportunities for urban fishing.

The event is open to Mississauga residents of all ages, families and anyone interested in learning more about fishing and the stormwater management pond known as Lake Aquitaine. No fishing experience is needed and a limited number of fishing rods will be available to borrow.

No registration is needed for this free event organized partnership with the Toronto Urban Fishing Ambassadors, Credit Valley Conservation, TRCA, South Peel Naturalists, Isaak Walton Fly Fishing Club, and the Region of Peel.
