Legendary singer Tony Bennet dead at 96

Grammy Award winning artist Tony Bennet is no more. The legendary American singer was 96.

Sylvia Weiner, Bennet’s publicist, confirmed his death to The Associated Press. There was no specific cause, but Bennett who died in his hometown of New York, had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016.

Bennett’s career was filled with many accolades including 20 Grammy Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award, and two Primetime Emmy Awards. He sold more than 50 million records worldwide.

Bennett broke the individual record for the longest span of top-10 albums on the Billboard 200 chart for any living artist; his first top-10 record was I Left My Heart in San Francisco in 1962. He also also broke the Guinness World Record for the oldest person to release an album of new material, at the age of 95 years and 60 days.

His final album, Love for Sale, another collaborative record with Lady Gaga, was released on September 30, 2021. The record debuted at number eight in the US.
