Hockey Night in Brampton raised a record breaking $1,000,000 for William Osler Health System Foundation and $100,000 for John Tavares Foundation, making it one of the largest charity hockey games in Canada, the City said in a news release. The event at the CAA Centre was sold out.
“What an incredible turnout we had at our second Hockey Night in Brampton event raising a record breaking $1M for William Osler Health Foundation and $100,000 for the John Tavares Foundation,” Mayor Patrick Brown stated. “This night would not have been possible without the generosity of the players, coaches, sponsors, fans and staff who rallied around an incredible cause. The money raised will directly support the residents of Brampton. A second hospital is desperately needed, and this event and all the funds raised bring us one step closer to that. Thank you, Brampton!”
City officials say that the money raised for Osler will support the development of the new Peel Memorial hospital that will significantly expand health care for Brampton, boosting inpatient capacity by at least 40% and bringing new, specialized services to the community. Plans for the hospital include construction of a new, multi-storey patient tower with up to 350 new beds, Brampton’s second Emergency Department, as well as new and enhanced day clinics and programs.
Once complete, the new Peel Memorial will be nearly the size of Osler’s Brampton Civic Hospital.
Officials thanked the Brampton community who purchased tickets to attend the game and donate to Osler as well as its many sponsors and donors.
The Falcon Sidhu Family donated $200,000; Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association – $100,000; National Brixen (Steeles) Partnership – $100,000; Sutharsan and Family Holdings Ltd. – $83,000 and Mehar Group of Companies – $50,000.
“Hockey Night in Brampton is not only an important fundraiser on its own, it’s an incredible way to ignite excitement and support for Osler’s redevelopment projects,” added Osler President and CEO Ken Mayhew. “Thank you to all of the sponsors, players, and fans who helped to make this a fun and successful event.”
