Canadians more likely to want next federal election before 2025: Poll

New research shows that many Canadians would prefer not to wait till 2025 to have the next federal election.

Close to one in two Canadians would prefer the next federal election take place as soon as possible (29%) or in 2024 (17%), while one in three would prefer 2025 (33%) and 17 per cent have no preference, according to data from a recent poll.

Nanos conducted an RDD dual frame (land-and cell-lines) hybrid telephone and online random survey of 1,069 Canadians, 18 years of age or older, between November 30th to December 2nd, 2023, as part of an omnibus survey. The margin of error for this survey is ±3.0 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

This study was commissioned by CTV and the research was conducted by Nanos Research.

Men are more likely to want an election as soon as possible (36%) than women (23%).

Older Canadians (55 plus) are more likely to prefer having the next election in 2025 (41%) than younger Canadians (18-34: 26% and 35-54: 28%), as are residents of Quebec (36%) compared to Prairie residents (21%).

In Ontario, 35.0% prefered to wait for 2025 when compared to 18.5% who prefered 2024, and 29.2% who wanted the federal elections as soon as possible.
