Peel police have charged a 35-year-old basketball coach with sexual assault.
Between the spring of 2022 and the summer of 2023, the victim, a 16-year-old female was a player on a local basketball team. During her time on the team, the victim was allegedly sexually assaulted by her coach, police said.
On December 13, investigators arrested Richard Chong, a 35-year-old man from Mississauga. He is charged with Sexual Assault and Sexual Exploitation.
Police say that Richard Chong has worked as a basketball coach for the past thirteen years in multiple areas within the Greater Toronto Area and has currently been employed as a basketball coach and volunteer within the Region of Peel.
Investigators are concerned that there may be additional victims and ask anyone with any information to contact the Special Victims Unit at 905-453-2121, extension 3460.
