A passenger aboard an Air Canada plain fell onto the tarmac at Pearson airport, according to news reports from several local media.

The reports said that the passenger was on board a Toronto-Dubai flight when they opened a cabin door and fell sustaining injuries.

Air Canada told CP24 in a statement that the incident occurred on Flight AC056 on Monday while the aircraft was at the gate.

The passenger boarded the plane normally but instead of proceeding to their seat opened opened a cabin door on the opposite side of the aircraft, the airline reportedly said.

The flight scheduled to carry 319 customers was delayed and departed at a later time.

“We can confirm all of our approved boarding and cabin operating procedures were followed,” Air Canada said in a statement to local media, adding that it is continuing to “review the incident.”

At this point it is not clear what caused the passenger to open the cabin door.
