Toronto (Mar 5) – Education Minister Stephen Lecce announced today that a tentative three-year agreement has been reached between the province and more than 36,500 teachers in publicly-funded English Catholic schools.

“I am pleased to announce that we have reached a tentative central agreement with the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA), that, if ratified, ensures no province-wide teacher job action or strikes in all English-language Catholic publicly funded schools for the next three years,” Lecce said in a written statement.

Details of the tentative agreement will be shared following ratification.

“We are extremely pleased that today, following many months of negotiations, representatives of the Ontario Catholic School Trustees’ Association (OCSTA), the Provincial Government and the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) reached a tentative collective agreement,” OCSTA President Patrick Daly stated in a social media post.

“The tentative agreement reflects the commitment of all of the negotiating parties to fairness and the well-being of students and teachers in Catholic schools throughout Ontario,” Daly wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Previously, central agreements have been reached with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) teachers and education workers, the Ontario Council of Educational Workers (OCEW), the Association des enseignantes et des enseignants franco-ontariens (AEFO) and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) teachers and education workers.

The province remains in ongoing discussions with the Education Workers’ Alliance of Ontario (EWAO).
