London (Feb 5) – King Charles has been diagnosed with a form of cancer, Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Monday.
The condition was diagnosed when the 75-year-old monarch was in hospital undergoing a procedure for an enlarged prostate, according to the statement. An issue of concern prompted diagnostic tests which confirmed the cancer.
Treatment has begun, and he has been advised by doctors to avoid public-facing activities during this time, the statement continued. Charles is positive about his treatment and hopes to return to full public duty as soon as possible.
The king has chosen to make his condition public to “prevent speculation” and in the hope it will bring “understanding” for all those who are affected by cancer, the statement added.
The statement came a day after World Cancer Day which was celebrated on February 4.
