Ottawa (Jan 9) – Ruby Sahota, Liberal Member of Parliament for Brampton North, assumes new responsibilities after her promotion from deputy to Chief Government Whip this year.
“Stepping into 2024 as Chief Government Whip brings new responsibilities, but my commitment remains unwavering – working to continue our laser focus on facing the challenges before us & supporting Canadians – from housing to healthcare to the economy,” Sahota said in a statement posted on X yesterday.
Sahota was elected Brampton North MP in 2015. She held the position of deputy government whip for more than two years, from December 2021 till January 7, 2024.
She was also a member of the Subcommittee on Review of Parliament’s involvement with associations and recognized Interparliamentary groups (April 2022), the Joint Interparliamentary Council (December 2021) and the Board of Internal Economy (December 2021).
“Through Ruby’s leadership and advocacy, Brampton’s major priorities are moving forward including: public transit, post-secondary education investments, $10/day childcare, reducing taxes, and making life more affordable for you,” her website stated.
“Ruby’s determination to be accessible and hardworking for her constituents, while encouraging more women and young people to get involved in politics, has deepened her passion for public service,” the website statement read.
“Her background as a lawyer and as a mother have helped her be a productive and compassionate MP for our Brampton community. Ruby will continue working to keep Canada moving forward and build a better future for Brampton and all Canadians,” it added.
