Police release photos of suspect involved in armed robbery of Markham jewelry store

York police have released images of one of four suspects in connection with an armed robbery with gunfire that occurred at a jewelry store in Markham.

On Thursday, May 18 at 3:10 p.m., York Regional Police received multiple calls about a robbery at a jewelry store in a mall in the area of Steeles Avenue and Kennedy Road. Officers were told that a male suspect in a suit rang the store’s doorbell and waited for an employee to unlock the door. He then assaulted the employee and entered with three other suspects. The suspects smashed a display case and took high-end watches. A firearm was discharged in the course of the robbery, but nobody was injured. The suspects then exited the store and fled in a vehicle.

Police are urging anyone who can the suspect in the photos. He is considered armed and dangerous. “If seen, do not approach him, instead call 9-1-1 immediately,” Constable Maniva Armstrong said.

The suspect is described as brown, 20 to 30 years of age, 5’6” with a slim build, black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a grey two-piece suit, blue shirt and black shoes.

Police are encouraging the suspect to seek legal counsel and turn himself in, while reminding the public that anyone who is, or has, assisted him may be subject to criminal charges.

Three other suspects involved in the armed robbery are described as males wearing dark clothing with hoods and masks.

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police are urged to come forward, along with anyone who has a video recording of the area around the time of the incident.
