A 22-year-old man from Aurora has been charged with Dangerous Driving and Stunt Driving after posting videos of himself engaged in street racing activities across York Region.

In April, York police received information about a male posting social media content that displayed him in street racing activities across York Region and other parts of the Greater Toronto Area. The driver frequently featured himself operating a blue 2022 BMW 5XG sedan, racing on public highways, boasting about evading police and bragging about getting away with it. The suspect was seen operating a vehicle with no front plate and fake licence plates affixed to its rear. The plates had the characters WILL RUN and SMURFY.

Investigators found videos that showed the suspect engaged in street races with other vehicles on Highway 407 and Highway 404, as well as other public roadways. He was seen driving dangerously, side-by-side in close proximity to other vehicles, stopping in live lanes of traffic and travelling at high rates of speed. These offences are believed to have occurred between April 1 and August 12.

Through investigation, members of the Road Safety Bureau’s REP Team identified the suspect as an adult male from Aurora. On August 16, police searched the suspect’s residence and seized various items, including fake licence plates and electronic devices.

A 22-year-old male from Aurora has been charged criminally with three counts of Dangerous Driving, as well as three counts of Stunt Driving under the provincial Highway Traffic Act. His driver’s licence was seized and suspended for 30 days and the BMW motor vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

The investigation is ongoing.
