Mississauga (Jan 18) Peel police have charged two people following three “smash-and-grab” style jewellery store robberies in Mississauga and Brampton.
Two of the thefts occured at jewellery stores in Mississauaga — one in the Dixie Road and South Service area (January 12) and the other in Goreway Drive and Morning Star Drive area (January 16). The third store, located in the area of Kennedy Road and Clarence Street in Brampton, was robbed yesterday, January 17.
In all three robberies, four suspects rushed in with their faces covered, carrying hammers. They smashed the display cases, stole various amounts of jewellery and fled in what was later determined to be a stolen vehicle, police said in a news release. Thankfully there were no injuries in any of these incidents.
As a result of the quick efforts by responding uniform officers, the stolen vehicle and occupants were located a short distance from the the third robbery. After a brief foot pursuit, two of the four suspects were arrested.
“Great collaborative work with our uniform members in securing these arrests in such a timely and efficient manner. These violent targeted robbery incidents will not be tolerated in Peel Region and all resources will be employed to identify, arrest and put those responsible before the courts,” said Inspector Sean Brennan – Financial Crimes Services.
Elijah Roberts, an 18-year-old man from Mississauga and a 16-year-old have been charged. They were both held for bail hearings and appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
