NEW DELHI
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nitin Gadkari is set to continue as party President for a second term.
The decision was taken after the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) held meetings with top BJP leaders on Friday.
Reportedly, senior leader LK Advani was reluctant to let Gadkari continue as party President. However, he is said to have agreed after the RSS’s intervention. Gadkari has been accused by anti-corruption activist and politician Arvind Kejriwal of being hand-in-glove with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the Maharashtra irrigation scam.
While the BJP has denied the charges, the IAC stands by its charges. The RSS meeting on Friday was held in Delhi ahead of a press conference by Kejriwal.
