BRAMPTON
The Principal of Beatty-Fleming Senior Public School Debra Allen was shot dead by her husband Dave Allen who also killed himself over a domestic dispute.
News of her violent death shocked the students of this Brampton school who are receiving grief counseling. Debra Allen was an outgoing person who had a radiant smile and connected instantly with all her students. This made her a popular figure on campus. She was an athlete who started a running group and flipped pancakes for the school’s breakfast club.
The Peel District School Board posted a letter to parents online on Sunday informing them of this tragedy and how to help their children cope.
In recent years Canadian schools have had its share of student tragedies where several students have taken their own lives or have had their lives taken in violent incidents. But Principal Debra Allen’s violent end was unexpected.
What made this especially hard for many students is the fact that this was one of the few Principals who actually connected with students, listened and empathized with them and was extremely approachable. She was more than a Principal for her student, she was for many, their only friend.
